Zoom La Légende des 2 Pierres
"Lines receding, pointed roofs and walls that seem to defy the laws of balance Eguisheim give the feel of a village of fairy tales."
This ancient fortified village is one of the most beautiful of Alsace and owes its reputation as much to the splendid wine from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, preserved, and the quality of its wine, which is among the best in the Vosges foothills.
The village is built in a circle around the remains of an eighth century castle, former residence of the family of Eguisheim, one of whose members, Bruno, would become pope in 1048 under the name of Leo IX.
During the revolution, the castle was sold as national property and destroyed his dungeon. In the last century (19th), the church received a new Romanesque nave but the clock tower and the tympanum of the twelfth century where you can see Christ in Majesty between St. Peter and St. Paul have been preserved. Storks built their nests on the roof.
